ZEP MTB CAMPS INSTRUCTOR: KIDS & ADULT

PART-TIME, SEASONAL POSITION

Location: KELOWNA - PART-TIME

Wage Range: $23-$29 (Based on experience)

ZEP Mountain Bike Camps is looking for fun, hard working, passionate and experienced MOUNTAIN BIKE COACHES to join our team and family business, for the 2025 season and beyond. Choosing a career in mountain bike coaching is the best job in the world!

The primary responsibility in this role will be to coach the ZEP MTB KIDS Program from late April to early October, 2-4 days per week, approx 5 - 20 hrs/wk. This position may also include additional opportunities with ZEP MTB CAMPS adult coaching programs and private lessons. Ideal candidates will have previous coaching experience (any sport) and a passion for working outdoors with children.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet n Greet ZEP clients
  • Execute thorough bike and equipment check before every ride.
  • Perform Bike Set-up workshop as needed, based on time frame of lesson/camp.
  • Discuss trail plan and rough lesson outline with client(s) during a thorough, visual & physical warm-up.
  • Develop their skills using the ZEP methodologies and coaching ethos.
  • Provide in-depth, individual and group riding feedback, as required.
  • Deliver an exceptional riding and learning experience, akin to ZEP’s superior reputation as an industry leader.

  • Teaching and supervising kids and adult’s mountain bike lessons and programs
  • Maintain strict Operational Procedures for client safety and product consistency.
  • Maintaining ZEP’s industry leading, professional standards for safety, risk management and customer service
  • Attend all required ZEP staff training and development sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • GSMBC Level 1 equivalent certification is mandatory before the start of the season.
  • Wilderness First Aid 40-hour certification (or equivalent) is required before the start of the season.
  • Completion of the GSMBC Kids Module is a significant advantage (training will be provided if you haven't completed it).
  • CSIA or CASI certifications or other relevant coaching experience is a strong asset.
  • Passion for the Outdoors: A genuine enthusiasm for working in the outdoor industry is crucial.
  • Mountain Bike Industry Knowledge: A solid understanding of the mountain bike industry is essential.
  • Customer Service Experience: Proven experience in customer service is required.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills, a positive and engaging personality, and a dedicated work ethic are essential.
  • Problem-Solving and Creative Skills: The ability to think critically, solve problems effectively, and apply creative solutions is highly valued.
  • Initiative and Attention to Detail: The ability to take initiative, pay close attention to detail, and work independently is crucial.
  • Teamwork and Leadership Skills: The ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate leadership qualities is important.

  • Candidates who possess a combination of the required certifications, recommended experience, and essential skills will be given priority consideration.
  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about mountain biking, committed to providing excellent customer service, and capable of working effectively in a dynamic outdoor environment.

ABOUT ZEP

Based out of Whistler and established 2006, ZEP MTB CAMPS is an industry leader in mountain bike coaching, education, and instructor training. ZEP offers a variety of coaching services, including adult skills programs, kids camps, private and custom programs and instructor training camps. ZEP is a well-respected member of the Whistler and mountain biking communities, working with youth, investing in trail building initiatives and maintenance, while supporting local bike clubs, shops, rental business and of course, the Whistler Bike Park.

Through our coaching and instructor training efforts for nearly two decades, ZEP has been fortunate to have worked with many coaches, businesses, schools, and bike parks, helping to shape the future of mountain bike coaching. ZEP has also featured on Pinkbike many times and has even had the privilege of consulting for the Canadian Olympic Mountain Bike Team.

Based on industry demand and our close attachments to the Okanagan, ZEP is planning an Okanagan branch of our programs, in 2021. The core focus will be to offer the community with key coaching programs for kids and adults, helping to grow a culture of safe, effective mountain bike lessons, while supporting the local community, bike clubs and trail builders; 2% off all proceeds will go to trail building!
