With a blend of skill development in open areas as well as on-trail skills coaching and sessioning on the incredible local terrain, this program promises to deliver a stronger, more capable rider, ready for anything.
- Riders comfortable riding blue and single black Whistler terrain (or equivalent), as a minimum
- Riders looking to better control speed on steeps and rock rolls
- Riders looking to tackle technical climbs and descents with more flow
- Riders who want to learn how to ride technical drops with consistency and ease
- 2hr sessions
- 1 per week for 4 weeks
- Sessions take on the trails in the Whistler Valley
- All sessions run from 6 - 8pm
- Each session begins with a bike check and set up info session, followed by a technical and physical warm up.
- Each week will have a key terrain focus, such as rock rolls, naturals drops, technical climbs/descents, or tight turns.
- A variety of terrain will be used to introduce, develop and refine new or existing skills, ranging from open areas to technical blue, black and double black terrain chosen by the coach to best suit the group and maximize confidence, safety and progression.
- Technical maneuvers such as pedalling wheel lifts, endos, nose pivots and bunnyhops will also be used to develop fundamental skills while providing tools for riders to better handle technical terrain.
- Video analysis thorugh our partners app Sport Sense along with a variety of terrain choice at each location will allow the coach to tailor the skills coaching and feedback for every rider.
- How much climbing will we be doing?
Like any ZEP lesson, the coach will tailor the skills and terrain to suit the riders and weather conditions, that day. While the focus is more on skill development during this program, riders should expect to be climb for up to or over an hour, and be comfortable descending long, technical blue, black or double black trails, depending on the groups ability, fitness and desire. Every ZEP coach is able to make sure the less experienced riders remain confident and safe while ensuring the more experienced riders are challenged and progress. - What gear do I need?
A good quality full suspension bike, with hydraulic disc brakes and downhill or enduro tires for grip and puncture protection. We recommend an enduro style bike; one with 5 or more inches of front and rear wheel travel, and with a fairly slack head angle for stability. Helmets and knee pads are mandatory. Arm and spine protection is recommended, but up to you; also gloves, hydration pack with water, snacks, tools and a spare tube to suit the weather conditions on the day.
